<p>El estadounidense G. Payne es doctor de historia por la Universidad de Columbia y se le relaciona con debates sobre la Guerra Civil Española o la Segunda República, siendo también colaborador frecuente de periódicos españoles como ABC y El Mundo sobre actualidad hispana. Su obra “En defensa de España: desmontando mitos y leyendas negras” acaba de ser galardonada con el premio Espasa 2017.</p>\r\n

<p>Dedicó gran parte de su intervención a analizar la coyuntura catalana exponiendo que “el catalanismo radical representa la versión contemporánea de las convulsiones históricas de Cataluña”. Habló de la cultura del victimismo de la que se sirve el catalanismo actual permitiendo presentar a los catalanes prósperos y víctimas de una España represiva.</p>\r\n

<p>Sobre los desafíos de la España actual, afirma que, pese a la recuperación económica padece una crisis política que “puede ser constitucional” y, citando a José Ortega y Gasset, dijo que “se puede encontrar la solución en crear un Estado federal algo que los verdaderos catalanistas no aceptarían nunca porque implican condiciones similares para todos”.</p>\r\n

<p>Rafael Arias-Salgado introdujo los logros conseguidos desde 1978 con motivo del 40 aniversario de la Constitución Española, insistió en que esa andadura de 40 años constitucionales no se puede poner en cuestión por grupos políticos desleales a ésta.</p>\r\n
